Why do we give?
We give because God asks us to (Malachi 3:10-12). Tithing was commanded in the Old Testament law (Leviticus 27:30), and was affirmed by Jesus in the New Testament (Luke 11:42). Though God doesn't need our money, He commands us to give for our benefit and our blessing (Deuteronomy 30:15-16).
Money competes with God for lordship of our lives (Matthew 6:24). Giving draws us closer to God and reminds us that He is our source.
We give cheerfully to the church to partner with God to change the world (2 Corinthians 9:6-15).We give to the church because it is Christ's body (Colossians 1:24), the pillar and foundation of truth (1 Timothy 3:15), through which we will fulfill God's plan on earth (Matthew 16:18).
